02.03.2015

On February 13th, (Fri.), 2015, Open Seminar “Building a Network of Biodiversity Databases and Information”, sponsored by The Shirakami Institute for Environmental Sciences, Hirosaki University, -the main research field of which is the World Natural Heritage Site of Shirakami Sanchi (mountains), was held at Hakkoda Hall, Hirosaki University.

In the seminar, we invited seven speakers; Dr. HOSOYA Tsuyoshi, Natural Museum of Nature and Science, Tokyo, who is also Node Manager, Japan Node of Global Biodiversity Information Facility (JBIF), Dr. FUKUDA Tomoko, Natural Museum of Mature and Science, Tokyo, who is in charge of S-Nets/GBIF in?the museum she belongs to, Dr. YOGO Masaya, The University Museum, The University of Tokyo, Dr. OHNISHI Wataru, Kanagawa Prefecture Museum of Natural History, Mr.TAWADA Junji, Nasunogahara Museum, Mr. TUJIMURA Osamu, Aomori City Forestry Museum, and Dr. NAKAMURA Takeyuki, the Shirakami Institute for Environmental Sciences, Hirosaki University. Fascinating talks how we should collect and provide valuable biodiversity information (Observations, specimens…etc), which accumutalted by museums and naturalists, were presented.

Living resources on the earth have definitely supported our lives in various ways. However, at the present time, human impacts, such as the destruction of forests and global warming have made the natural environments changing dramatically. Biological information including distributions and specimens are important to study the changes in biodiversity.

The Shirakami Institute for Environmental Sciences is now working on building a biodiversity information network in Aomori Prefecture.
Please let us share your important items, data and/or documents including specimens, if you have some.
