Overview
The Hirosaki University Graduate School of Health Sciences Master’s Degree Program offers twelve courses in the four fields of Nursing Science, Bioinformatics Science, Biofunctionality Science, and Comprehensive Rehabilitation Science. We aim to develop leaders and sophisticated professionals with proven abilities to manage and perform. Our Doctoral Degree Program offers six courses in the two fields of Science of Health Services and Medical Bioscience, with the goals of contributing to society by developing education researchers who have highly specialized knowledge and technology. Additionally, in 2010, we became Japan’s first university to offer a master’s course in Radiation Exposure Healthcare, and our aim is to develop medical professionals capable of responding to emergency radiation exposure situations around the globe.
Courses
We aim to develop future professionals capable of redefining creative education and research for the establishment of evidence-based health sciences on the basis of “pursuit of evidence” and “inter-professional work”.
Health Sciences(Master Course)
Department of Nursing Science
This field is based on fundamental nursing education and nursing practical experience, With the purpose of autonomously and scientifically searching for challenges in nursing, and developing abilities which can contribute to the development of nursing science. Specifically, education and research to develop the skills needed to practice high quality nursing by individuals, family, groups, and persons in the area, and their ability to 1) work towards the improvement in the quality of nursing practice and the care environment, 2) analyze and improve the care environment, 3) promote cooperation between multiple disciplines, 4) examine the effects of the legal system related to nursing practice, and 5) improve the educational environment of nursing science.
Department of Radiation Science
Radiation has been applied in the medical field for over 100 years, and its importance in diagnoses and treatment in the modern medicine is extremely important. Radiation technology has continued to develop through the advancements of hardware and software in equipment engineering, and supports modern medicine. In the Master’s Course of Radiation Science, education and research developed from faculty education on techniques and theories of information engineering, system engineering, and biological science in image diagnosis and radiation treatment are carried out.
Department of Bioscience and Laboratory Medicine
In this field, physiologic functions and pathological analysis from the cellular level to the entire body are the main focus of education and research. Regarding physiologic functions, education and research pertaining to the latest insights and methodology are conducted, including the structure and function of the living body, homeostatic functions, immunoregulation, and various disease states (e.g., leukemia, diabetes, arteriosclerosis). Regarding pathological analysis, in comparison with normal control, education and research on analysis methods from the genetic level to the cellular level, and even to the macroscopic level are carried out. Predicted results, newest insights, current problems and their solutions, latest trends, future issues and development of the pathology of tumors, blood diseases, and infections are also considered. These results lead to development of diagnoses and treatment.
Department of Comprehensive Rehabilitation Science
Comprehensive Rehabilitation Science is a clinical application science where research targets various human disabilities and persons with those disabilities. This field is based on physical therapy and occupational therapy. Along with analyzing human movements, mental and daily life activities, and abnormalities from the viewpoint of disorder prevention, evaluation and handling of physical and occupational therapy for the purpose of recovery of motor and mental disabilities and the improvement of life activities are carried out in light of precedent case studies, as well as considering the analysis methods of clinical decision-making in the process.
Health Sciences(Doctoral Course)
Department of Nursing Science
This field is based on the education and research of the faculty and first semester of the postdoctoral course. In order to train educators and researchers who can maintain and promote human health, independent effort in original and interdisciplinary research on quality of life (QOL) improvement, and wide-range knowledge and high-level expertise and morality are carried out.
Department of Radiation Science
Radiation has been applied in the medical field for over 100 years, and its importance in diagnoses and treatment in the modern medicine is extremely important. Radiation technology has continued to develop through the advancements of hardware and software in equipment engineering, and supports modern medicine. In the Doctoral Course of Radiology Science, education and research are carried out so that students can learn the basics as researchers on advanced techniques and theories on information engineering, system engineering, and biological science as related to image diagnosis and radiation therapy.
Department of Bioscience and Laboratory Medicine
In this field, the physiologic functions and pathologic analysis pertaining to “life activities” of humans are explored and evidence is sought using scientific analytical methods. New ideas and creative thinking, which are not restricted to a specific field, as well as approaches to further deepen health science, are fostered by coordinating and cooperating beyond the occupational range of contemporary problems in health sciences.
